Beetle Kdramas

Probably the fastest binge ever in my own history of binge-watching. Move To Heaven is a short 10 episode drama produced by Netflix, especially for Kdrama lovers. It explores life and death through the story of the workers at Move To Heaven trauma cleaning agency. From Lee Je Hoon to the newly discovered Tang Joon-Sang, the cast for this drama is more than top-notch.  Trauma Cleaning  Ever heard of trauma cleaning? Personally, I have never heard nor even thought about them. It is weird, they say, "away from the eyes, away from the mind." It is totally true in this case. I have even written about unconventional careers before for a job; surprisingly, this job was not even mentioned anywhere. It is like the whole industry of crime scene cleaning is not exactly recognized by people. After reading a few articles about a trauma cleaner's job, it is a job that requires handling chemical materials that remove the worst type of contamination you can think of. Certainly, a j...

If you follow me on Twitter, you would know that Vincenzo is one of the few dramas I followed weekly till its final episode recently. I was very happy and satisfied with how things were developing in this drama - until a certain point, that is!!! Why I loved Vincenzo! Vincenzo is a story about a consigliere who leaves Italy after the head of the family dies and goes to Korea to start a war again evil 😅. While I am not familiar with how well the drama showcases the mafia, it is a fact that Song Joong Ki put a lot of effort in this role. According to reviews, his Italian is very good, and he definitely tried to mimic Italian body language even if he was not always successful.  Vincenzo starts as a well-balanced show with quirky characters and fun interactions between Vincenzo and the tenants of Guemga Plaza, and serious altercations between Vincenzo and Ok Taecyeon - Aka. Evil Guy - Aka. Jang Junu.  The main genre of the show is dark comedy; however, it definitely didn't set t...

I seriously need to write a list of unpopular Kdramas for 2020. I keep discovering new gems that I should have watched last year.  Team Bulldog Off-Duty Investigation This is a 12-episode short series starring Cha Tae Hyun and Lee Sun Bin as the main characters alongside multiple first-rate supporting actors. I especially loved Jung Sang-hoon in here. I always saw him in comedic roles and he was fun to watch but I wanted to see him in a serious role once.  Team Bulldog Off-Duty Investigation Review Team Bulldog is a mystery drama with quirky characters, fun investigations, disgusting murderers, and interesting reporters. You get the whole package in just 12 episodes in this drama. A group of misfits try to solve mysteries that the police themselves cannot solve. With one member a real detective, they are not a totally illegitimate group; therefore, they have access to crime scenes and police resources when needed. The group itself includes a former forensic pathologist, a...

Been a while since my last Chinese drama review, Love Me If You Dare is a Chinese mystery drama starring Wang Kai, Wallace Huo, and Ma Sichun. The first thing I noticed about the actors is the uncanny resemblance between Ma Sichun and Kim Hyun-Joo, the famous Korean actress. Just to show you, here they are together.  Who is who? I will let you guess!! What is the Story of Love Me If you Dare Chinese Drama? Now to move along, I started this show based on a Twitter recommendation, and it was indeed well-recommended. The show discusses the life of a genius profiler and crime psychology professor who is able to deduct and find the most dangerous criminals ever; he even collaborated with the FBI, CIA and so on. Said genius starts to solve a series of crimes with the help of an assistant he somehow got interested in. All the crimes led him to the identity of his mortal enemy of sorts, a smart stalker like no other. This is a drama that combines thriller, mystery, action and romance toget...

Korean dramas in 2020 were really top-notch. Despite finishing my fair share of dramas, I am still discovering new gems till now in January. Hot Stove League is one of the dramas I didn't think I would like because I literally know nothing about Baseball. In fact, I am "sports illiterate" in general. However, this is one show that could count as educational, entertaining, and even non-romantic. Still, before starting the drama, it is better if you are not familiar with the rules of baseball to at least read an article before the beginning of this drama. It is not a drama about a high school team, therefore, you won't start the drama with an introduction to the rules of the game. In fact, one of the first meetings in the show included terminologies like WAR (Wins Above Replacements), batting average, etc. Therefore, I recommend you read the following articles before you start.  1. Baseball Rules by Rules of Sports 2. Baseball Positions: All 9 Fielding Positions Explai...

Did I get that correct "Binge-Worthy"? Anyway, as the COVID-19 lockdown continues all over the world, I believe this is the ultimate time to catch up on that long list of planned to watch series. Luckily, Netflix has most of the series on my planned to watch list. 1. The Secret Life Of My Secretary "As a disaster befalls the manager of a big company, his secretary learns his secret by chance and love ensues " This drama is a typical rom-com drama that, for once, does not overuse the concept of a pitiful, poor secretary and a rich manager. While the heroine is not the brightest or the strongest, her character development throughout this series is very solid and enjoyable to watch, especially, as she moves forward playing two characters that are not similar at all. The series starring Kim Young-Kwang, Jin Ki-Joo, Kim Jae-Kyung and Koo Ja-Sung started with a similar vibe of a Rich Man Poor Woman series ; but moved forward to grab the attention as uniqu...

One of the gems that I found out about too late this year is Kim Myung Soo's drama " Angel's Last Mission: Love". This drama had me confused, sad, happy, and irritated at the same time. I noticed that I recently use the word "unique" a lot, so I searched for an alternative to describe this drama, and I found just the perfect word, unparalleled. This drama is unparalleled; you won't ever find something similar to it anywhere. I will try to bring you closer to how I view this masterpiece through a proper analysis of what makes this different.  The Story and the Actors Story-wise this drama has just the correct amount of drama, comedy and philosophy. The story revolves around a love story between a celestial being " An angel" and a ballerina. Myung Soo plays the role of the angel assigned to a ballerina who hates the world to bring some love to her world. He is portrayed as a mischievous angel in need of some discipline; thus, he gets ...

Hello Again, It's been a while! So today, I decided to review one of the latest Chinese dramas available on Netflix. This was recommended to me by Netflix upon its arrival. Since it was still airing, I put it on hold till the airing period ended, and now I am finally done with it. *Spoilers Ahead* The Actors and Cast A Little Thing Called First Love is a day to day slice of life drama that discusses the modest but astonishing trip of a group of youth through both high school and university. While from the beginning of the drama, the focus on the female lead (Xia Miao Miao) is undeniable, the rest of the cast in this drama are just as astonishing. Personally, I tend to believe that slice of life dramas are the hardest to both write and act. It is not easy to make people interested in merely watching similar people living a normal unadventurous life with regular day to day situations. The actors in the drama, though, managed to make the slice of life genre as eye-catching a...

I am late to the party, I know, but it 's nothing new for me. I tend to search for the unpopular stuff rather than the popular ones, so I tend to watch trending dramas later. Anyway, I started this drama like two weeks ago and finally managed to finish it today. I can say that I know why it created such a buzz when it was aired.  The story of Descendants of The Sun  Story-wise descendants of The Sun has a lot of unique aspects. A love story between a doctor and a soldier is not original, but the way the story is handled is. It is not a love story in the middle of a war, nor is the doctor an army doctor. It is a love story between two ordinary human beings who just happens to be an army soldier and a doctor. I personally love that the writer managed to explore all the aspects of 2 of the most important professions in our world. Prominently, the dilemma of the personal life of a soldier and how his job affects more than just him. Love in this drama is bey...

This week's review is exceptional because it is a drama that is not a romantic comedy of any sort. Honesty, I am glad I managed to find this drama. The Judgement is a 2018 Thai drama starring  Mild Lapassalan, Kacha Nontanun, Thanabordee Jaiyen,  and  Nara Thepnupha . It discusses very heavy themes like cyber-bullying, rape, gang rape and power abuse. It is an 18+ drama, so if you are not 18 yet, please don't watch this drama. It is not for you.  Story  This drama discusses a series of disasters that happen to a group of college students starting from the female lead, who goes through a horrible experience, to her friends, who go through similar situations. The female lead is a person who is loved by her dad and her stepmom. Her father ends up in a coma after an accident, and she is betrayed by the one person she thought she could trust, her boyfriend. She ends up getting raped by her boyfriend while unconscious and the story unfolds from the...

Story This drama holds the key to what you could say the ultimate recipe for comedy, romance and work-life shows. The story starts with a weather announcer searching for a way to become a real-time news announcer. She has a dream, and she is striving hard to reach it to a rather pitiful point. You know these interns that we all petty in K-dramas, she is a lot like them, doing the odd jobs and all. The main lead is also an oddball in his own way. He is charismatic and obviously good at his job, but from the first episode, we get that he was thrown away to another country as a reporter for some reason. We then get to see him encountering a rare disease and fighting with it in his own humorous way.  The Actors Jo Jung Suk  He is the leading man of this drama, and he sure did a perfect job acting like an arrogant reporter. His character starts off as the epitome of these bad boys we see in all dramas, but then we discover that he is, in fact, a pe...

This week we will discuss one of the most popular dramas in 2019. "He is Psychometric" starring Park Jin Young (Got7), Shin Ye Eun, Kim Da Som and Kwon Kim is an unusual drama. It aired from March till the end of April. The show created a buzz in terms of both acting and directing, and Park Min Young earned rave reviews thanks to his acting here. Story and Writing He is Psychometric is a mystery, thriller, sci-fi romantic drama. It is a refreshing drama that discusses the reason behind an arson case in an apartment building. The main heroes are both survivors of the fire, and the female cast is also fully connected to the case somehow. The themes discussed in the drama are all unusual, way beyond simple mystery, there is tragedy, psychology, corruption and ignorance. The writer of the drama did a fantastic job exploring the characters and explaining their backgrounds in details. She made sure to stay away from any stereotypes and even the ending, which I will not sp...

"I Can Hear Your Voice" starring Lee Jong Suk and Lee Bo Young is a suspense romantic drama with a unique plot. It is the real start for actor Lee Jong Suk as we know him now. The show has quite a different feel from ordinary romantic dramas, and although the actors have a bit of an age difference, they are really compatible. Actors and Characters: Lee Bo-young  acts as Lawyer  Jang Hye-sung,  the lawyer who doesn't care. She is a character that is hard to forget. Her character is courageous but at the same time, a scaredy-cat. At first, she appears careless, however, throughout the drama, she changes drastically.  Lee Jong-suk,  on the other hand ,  acts  Park Soo Ha , a youngster with a sad past. His character is a very complicated character, to say the least, and he does a fantastic job acting as a character with a special power.  Jung Woong-in , who acts as Min Joon-gook, is another great actor in this drama. Wanna know what it i...
